Welcome!

im probably going to use this to post about my day, project updates, possibly roleplay stuff, idk. i just wanted to look at something not purple.
my lvl 3 results came today!!!! I got a merit!!!!! i'm very pleased!!!! thinking of getting myself a tamagotchi paradise to celebrate :D
I wish I was more of an aesthetic person. Like, I'm not very good at this at all and I kind of feel like an imposter among all these cool people here.
I'm gonna be honest. I am very excited about the new homestuck animated series BUT I'll be very suprised if it even makes it past act 1. also theres way too much unfinshed homestuck stuff already please finish hiveswap i wanna see chahut again. (good time to mention i dont really like epilogues or ^2) (ALSO!!!! jade is being voiced by tails thats so cool!!!! (ill never forgive epilogues for what they did to her))
still setting up galleries but i thought i might share some more drawings, this ones a bit newer (its schwarzwälder from crk)
full metal alchemist brotherhood review
(unspecific narrative spoilers ahead, also a bit messy puntuation wise, its 1am, ill clean it up later <3 )
firstly. wow. i have quite a bit to say, and want to express my enjoyment of this show with more than "peak" or "absolute cinema".
if you think this is or want a show about the main character always overpowering the enemy and punching their way to victory for the moral of the story, this is NOT that show and im grateful for it. i love shonens and theres obviously plenty of nuance but it was a pleasant change of pace.
im notoriously fussy about what i watch, and i put this on because i wanted some bg noise while i worked on my website, but
i was genuinely gripped from start to finish. everything i predicted was incredibly wrong. it leads like something you've seen before, government secrets, estranged but secretly powerful parental figure, teen prodigy, but theres always a twist here, not just for shock factors sake, but ones actually makes sense. seemingly useless side characters doing seemingly stupid things only for it to be a calculated play to fool the antagonists and catch the viewer by suprise too. and the female characters actually having interesting conflicts instead of constanly being a hinderance for no reason other than to halt the story and be annoying!?! its a refreshing display of narrative competence all round and definitely got me to pay more attention. theres rarely any moments where i was rolling my eyes and going, "ugh, this again?" im very impressed.
i understand the climax might be controversial, the main characters take quite a bit of a backseat during it, but i think it also relays its key narrative well. i think the point is nobody got to where they were alone. unity feels like a pretty important theme of the story, through adversity, through forgiveness, its not outright stated and rammed down your throat because you should be smart enough to see it unfolding, how essential each characters relationship is to allowing them to excel and overcome adversity. its not a handholdy thing. the fights are good, but Edward facing a constant moral dilemma thoughout and exploring the struggle of keeping your ethics throughout hardships, which parallels that of his mentor characters is incredibly interesting to me. again, this isnt a thing that happens in a huge blowout arguement, but something you'll notice if you just pay attention, which is actually something pointed out in a character interaction pretty early on; the fact that conversations are going to happen but things are not just going to be spelt out for you all the time. it feels very mature.
i imagine if it was longer, the group might’ve gone on the chase to other places mentioned, and although i wouldve liked to see them, i understand why. it gets to the point and thats good. it's just the world established is just so interesting I'd love to see more of it. it wouldve been nice as well to spend some more time explaining how some things work. i only understood some details because id seen the live action movies (i like the first one, the other two a bit less) and maybe give more opportunity to have fleshed out some of the less involved side characters like mustangs friend group, because i honestly cant name any of them.
controversial take, i think filler is good. i enjoy short adventures where i can learn more about the characters, even if its stupid and unimportant trivia. it's when it's used to artificially pad the runtime and longevity of a series without having any meaning or nerfing character strength that makes it bad. one piece has great filler (except that one time), but then again theres few bad things about one piece so maybe thats a poor example. i think im getting a bit distracted so im gonna bring this to a close.
the actual conflict is really compelling. the main characters motivation starts of as something that seems pretty insignificant, but throughout ends up answering reasonable questions like why its even a problem. new information ends up adding urgency to the situation, which initially is presented as something less drastic to a ticking time bomb that could go off tomorrow or in 30 years, and at that point, you've had plenty of time to grow attached to the characters. everything makes sense and you really understand the struggle the characters are going through. i really like the ending as well. what everyone does feels acurate and in character. i dont like endings that are too cut-and-dry; leaving it open to a degree makes it feel more realistic to real life. I like the implications of the future, as well as taking into consideration past events like character deaths, because again, too often, i feel like its not something thats taken into account; seemingly important events that shake the main character to their core in that moment, to not mattering or affecting their future actions in any way. its nice to see actual consequence for things, especially deaths.
its definitely worth a watch, especially if you're going to sit down and ACTUALLY watch it. the animation is incredible. i regret putting it off for so long.
so in conclusion, equivalent exchange. shoutout to barry, hes a real one.
